A principios de 2008 Google comenzó a agregar las primeras características de reconocimiento de voz en su aplicación para iPhone, posteriormente estas llegaron a Android y durante los últimos meses, poco a poco, están llegando a las versiones de escritorio de los servicios de la empresa de Mountain View. Desde hoy podemos hacer uso de este tipo de búsqueda en Google Maps y para ello tan solo tenemos que disponer de un navegador que permita usar esta característica, que por el momento tan solo se trata de Google Chrome. Si disponemos de este navegador podemos entrar en Maps y se a la derecha de la barra de búsqueda se mostrará el icono del micrófono y al pulsarlo podremos comenzar a hablar.
Esta nueva característica la podemos usar para muchas de las funciones que dispone este popular servicio de Google, no solo para buscar algún punto en el planeta. De este modo podemos hacer una búsqueda simple como vemos en la imagen superior, en la que he dicho “Madrid” o incluso podemos hacer búsquedas más concretas como por ejemplo que nos indique la ruta para ir desde Madrid a Barcelona.
Con la incorporación de esta característica en sus diferentes servicios Google busca, evidentemente, ofrecer más opciones a sus usuarios y una mayor comodidad, a lo que en este caso hay que añadirle la posibilidad de hacer uso del reconocimiento de voz cuando queremos buscar ciudades que son más fáciles de decir que de escribir. Algo que también podemos usar en el buscador desde hace un tiempo.
¿Se popularizará el reconocimiento de voz en nuestros ordenadores? Es una característica que dentro del mundo de los teléfonos móviles inteligentes puede tener un uso más inmediato, pero sin duda puede ser usado dentro de un tiempo en nuestros ordenadores según se mejore los sistemas de reconocimiento de voz. En la actualidad dentro del mundo del automóvil se están incluyendo estos para permitir a los conductores ordenar acciones a elementos del coche, por ejemplo el navegador, sin tener que apartar las manos del volante. Ahí se usan de los sistemas más avanzados pero se muestran claras carencias, hasta tal punto que una leve diferencia en el acento a la hora de pronunciar una palabra puede hacer que esta no sea reconocida.
Sea como fuere, el uso que le podemos dar desde nuestros ordenadores es mucho más simple y básico, ya que no creo que tengamos la necesidad de controlar nuestro equipo mediante comandos de voz, lo cual sería terriblemente engorroso y poco práctico.

The W3C has formed a new online community group specifically for semantic web news. According to the homepage, “The Semantic News Community Group is a forum for exploring the intersection of W3C semantic technologies and news gathering, production, distribution and consumption. It will focus on a common representation for abstract ideas in the news domain such as a ‘news event’ or a domain ontology for news.” continued…

A recent article reports, “Draft version 0.5 of rNews, a standard model for embedding machine-readable metadata in online news, was approved at the International Press Telecommunications Council’s [IPTC] Annual General Meeting in Berlin, Germany. This version clarifies, simplifies and expands the rNews model and incorporates much of the feedback that the IPTC has received about the first draft. The IPTC is also releasing the recommended RDFa implementation for rNews 0.5 and plans to provide mappings to other markup mechanisms, such as HTML5 microdata and JSON.
